2024 | NATSIAA FINALISTS

As part of the SICAD Projects’ Awards on Demand program, Ku Arts proudly supported two South Australian independent artists to successfully enter the 36th National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA). Artists received tailored, one-on-one support with writing submissions, developing artwork and artist statements, biographies, photographing and cataloguing works, pricing, and coordinating portraits and freight.

This year’s supported entries included Nepouie by Donna Coulthard and Thukabi by Mardawi Lakun. Ku Arts congratulates all 2024 NATSIAA Finalists on their outstanding achievements.

These are my memories of growing up and working on my homeland Nepouie, that I am sharing with you. Nepouie is the place of Springwater, nipa - ‘flat rock’ and awi - ‘water’ in Adnyamathanha Ngawarla. Donna Coulthard.

THukabi - mardawi lakun

Thukabi, meaning turtle in Ngarrindjeri is a collaboration between the founders of Mardawi Lakun (Aunty Ellen Trevorrow, Temeika Campbell, Bessie Rigney, Elizabeth Rankine and Margeret Sumner) who are driven by a shared dedication to their heritage and the environment. Thukabi celebrates multi-generational weaving, keeping the Lakun (weaving) practice going.
