“Opal Dreams celebrates the shimmering colours and quiet magic of the Coober Pedy landscape, my home. As a child, I often went ‘opal noodling’ with my mum and grandmothers, searching for flashes of blue, green, and red beneath the earth. In this work I layer those luminous hues to reveal the beauty hidden below the surface and to share the price I feel in belonging to a country rich with opal. The painting is both a journey underground and a reminder to care for the land that holds these treasures.”

Lisa Khan (Yankunytjatjara, Antikirinya, Pitjantjatjara and Ahmadiyyah Muslim) paints from her studio at The Mill in Tarntanya/Adelaide. Her works honour her Aboriginal and Muslim heritage while sharing stories of resilience, identity, and belonging. In 2025 she was a finalist in the National Ramsay Prize.
