Traditionally made with Lawyer cane (bugul), these baskets were used to collect fruit, seeds and native turkey eggs. Today artists are experimenting with a variety of non-traditional items such as wire, plastics, ropes and cord to create the gundala.
Venetta Denham is a Girramay woman living in the Murray Upper region, north-west of Cardwell. Venetta is an emerging artist that practices as a painter, weaver, and ceramicist. Her artwork depicts her connection to culture and traditions that have been passed down by Elders.
