The coloured patterns at the top of the landscape represent the five seasons in N.T. In my language: Jeyowk, Bangkarrang, Malaparr, Junglak and Guran. The rocks and river bed hold caves that are sacred to my people. The rainbow serpent is depicted by the coiled basket that accompanies the painting. The serpent used to travel freely from the sky through the various caves in the rocks and river.

After a decision in the 90s to block off some of the caves, this prompted a loss of freedom for the serpent that equates a loss of culture for my people. Creating these two artworks is a way for me to reclaim the cultural significance of my people's rituals, practises and stories.
