Nyangatja kampuraratjara, Anangu tjutangku mai nyangatja ngalkupai putingka. The painting represents the bush medicine kampurara or bush tomato, a favourite of people on the Lands. You can smell them when they’re ripe and everyone gets to collect them before emus and other birds get to them. Beware of its poisonous cousin, it doesn’t smell the same! The brown background is the very good soil on which they grow. The lines are the creeks along which they grow after big rains. Back in the day, before white man came here, people used to dry and grind them to make a ball to eat when traveling.I made this painting to bring some enjoyment to patients who will think: 'oh this is a delicacy, I can smell the kampurara!' It will remind them of home.
