100 × 70× 25cm Dabun dhangguray (dream soft)
Dabun dhangguray (dream soft) is a quiet act of resistance - an invitation into soft spaces shaped by care, cultural comfort, and connection to identity. Made in the wake of the failed referendum, the work holds space for grief and cultural strength through the act of making. The motif of the madjam - muruwari word for Flying Fox - celebrates connection to place and community: they are Ancestral figures of kinship, caretaking, and resilience. The woven sculptural forms reference my connection to Culture through shared knowledge and the way bats thrive by maintaining communal bonds that span generations.
Muruwari woman, Dr Virginia Keft, is a multi-award-winning artist and scholar living and working on Dharawal Country (Wollongong, NSW).
