Reconciliation - Its NOT my job
56 x 46 cm Raffia- natural and hand dyed, recycled glass stone, waxed thread, 2025.
This work was born from my frustration with government systems that continue to oppress, control and dictate to us as Aboriginal people. This woven work is an organic tower, filled with polished white recycled glass, representing the mountain of "white privilege" that we as Aboriginal people have to climb daily. The piece although organic has been made to look heavy in response to the weight we as Aboriginal people carry. The reflective, mirrored element of the work encourages viewers to take responsibility and start walking with us on this journey.
Jodie Munday is a Wiradjuri woman living near Goulburn NSW, she is a visual artist working across a variety of art forms including drawing, photography, printmaking, pottery, wood burning, painting and weaving. Taking inspiration from her Aboriginal and Celtic heritage, Munday’s weavings feature a combination of native plants and fibre, including Lomandra and Flax, along with both natural and hand dyed raffia. The colours within each piece are reflective of the presence or place and personality of individuals who have been influential on the artist, her life, and her artistic practice.
